MANILA, Philippines — Before leaving the defense of team of former President Rodrigo Duterte, Nicholas Kaufman, in one of his final contributions, asked a trial chamber of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to reconsider Duterte’s request for interim release as he has been reported to have been experiencing occasional “loss of balance” and “short-term memory.” In the observations filed on May 8 by Duterte’s defense, Kaufman stated that the reported medical information on his client in the past two months mitigates the risks he posed to victims and witnesses due to the apparent change in his circumstances.
