Socceroos goalscorer Connor Metcalfe says he was close to ripping his shirt off after scoring one of Australia’s two goals in their World Cup match against Turkey. ‘I didn't want to get a yellow [card] so then I just ended up going for the the classic knee-slide,’ Metcalfe told reporters 22 hours after the historic scenes in Vancouver. Although he didn’t get the best sleep, he said the Socceroos couldn't have asked for a better start. ‘The amount of messages I’ve received, the fact that my family, my loved ones, could be there was super special – so [it is] a memory I’ll never forget.’
